The only way I have found to use GFC through Google Sites is to use an
external site and use a Iframe Gadget to the external site page into
your GOOGLE Site Page. This is what I have done with
www.singlefrugalfather.com. I do not like this workaround as I wanted to
maintain 1 site with as little code as possible. I may have to move it
to another host. :( But for now here is the workaround.
1.
Get a free account at www.atspace.com (or some other free hosting
service) 2. Name your domain at the free site something like
yourGoogleSitedomainname.freesite.com 3. Download the 2
files GFC requires to the root of the newly formed domain mentioned in
step 2. 4. Select the Test and Save Button in the GFC setup
page. 5. Gen up the GFC code for the member sign in and
members page. 6. copy the code for each GFC gadget into a
basic gfcgadget.html page. 7. upload that page(s) to
your yourdomain.freesite.com 8. Edit the Google Site page that you
want to Add the GFC gadget 9. While in EDIT mode on that
Google Site Page, Insert an Iframe Embed Gadget. 10. For the
URL property of the Iframe Embed Gadget enter http://yourGoogleSitedomainname.freesite.com/gfcgadget.html 11.
Save your GOOGLE SITE page.
As a side note, this
is a real pain, and I am concerned about the future limitations of this
as I see GFC becoming part of GoogleWave - and I see some really neat
potential there for a live interactive site...I am hoping GOOGLE gives
GOOGLE SITE admins the ability to add these features directly to their
site.
